I am always inspired by the SCBWI conferences and retreats I attend. The fall WPASCBWI conference this past weekend is no exception. Armed with feedback from my critiques and workshops, I am ready to kick some “editing” butt and knock out a chapter or two of my new project.
I am also a little discouraged. One of the agents told us she only takes two new clients a year. Wow. Out of the 10,400 queries she receives in a year (200 a week), she narrows it down to two. That has to be an incredibly difficult job. It also confirms what everyone says–your query letter needs to really stand out and catch the agent’s attention. I can take heart, though. Whenever I am lucky enough to find an agent, he or she will devote a lot of thier time and energy to helping me develop my career.
I better get back to my writing first.
